DIE KRAFT DES WASSERS

DIE KRAFT DES WASSERS (“The Power of Water”) is a concert work that makes the changeability and versatility of the element water tangible through music. The piece is structured in three parts; all parts are closely related harmonically, as they are based on the same chords. However, through rhythmic and melodic variations, each part is shaped to be sonically and characteristically unique.
The first part depicts the constancy of water. Calm, flowing melodies and gentle harmonies convey a sense of continuity and steady existence, much like a quietly meandering river.

The lively middle section portrays the sheer force of water. Rapid runs, dynamic accents, and dramatic crescendos make both the life-giving and the destructive power of water palpable. Here, bright, blossoming moments alternate with darker tonal colors reminiscent of storm surges or crashing waves.
In the triumphant final section, the fundamental importance of water for all life on Earth is musically celebrated. Powerful chords and broad, hymn-like melodic arcs express gratitude and awe before the work concludes in a radiant finale.
Thus, “The Power of Water” unites the various facets of this essential element within a harmonically cohesive yet thematically diverse form, inviting the audience to experience water anew in all its significance.

“The Power of Water” was commissioned by the Musikkapelle Mühlwald.
