UNGEZÄHMT (Untamed) is a symphonic concert work inspired by the majestic mountain massif of the Wilder Kaiser in Tyrol, its rugged beauty, and the countless legends that surround it. The piece opens with a solemn fanfare that brings to life the immense grandeur of the mountain — powerful brass chords and forceful rhythms trace the craggy contours of the massif.
This is followed by a mysterious, almost otherworldly section, where delicate instrumentation evokes the old tales of hidden treasures, spirits, and mystical encounters. Out of this atmosphere emerges a dramatic passage in which agitated sounds conjure up the dangers of the mountain — sudden storms, avalanches, the unpredictability of nature.
Finally, the music unfolds into a broad, lyrical melody that paints the panorama of the Wilder Kaiser in glowing tonal colors, imbued with a sense of reverent awe. In the festive conclusion, themes from the opening fanfare return, intensified into a triumphant hymn to the untamed, wild power of this unique mountain world.
The work was commissioned by the Bundesmusikkapelle Kirchdorf in Tyrol.
