VON WEIN UND SILBER

In 2023, the South Tyrolean village of Terlan celebrated its 1100th anniversary. It is difficult to pack such a period of time into a 6-minute work, but in "Of wine and silver" I try to cover the most important aspects of the history of the municipality. Two of them are already revealed by the title, since Terlan is a widely known wine-growing area. The second, and perhaps less known aspect, is that the municipality was an important silver mining area in the Middle Ages. In the work, after the opening fanfare, the transformation of the area from wild marshland to productive cultivation area is described, as well as the arduous work in the silver mines. In the final part, the opening fanfare is resounding again in a modified form as a majestic hymn.
